#1 Patience, Hard Work, and Consistency

This is the single biggest problem today! Everyone wants shortcuts, everyone wants the 10min 20-inch biceps workout or 15min tree trunk legs.

It just does NOT work like that! You need to work hard! There is NO SUBSTITUTE for hard work, not even steroids will help you if you aren’t willing to work hard.

You need to consistently bust yourself in the gym week in and week out (except for your deload weeks).

Do not go from one fitness fad to another, that will keep you going nowhere. Consistency is the key to building muscle.

Get yourself a good progressive overload program that incorporates all the major lifts.

You also cannot be impatient, if you are building muscle naturally then you need to know what to expect realistically so you can plan ahead and know how much muscle you can build per month.

#2 Do Your Squats!

This is an exercise the bros avoid like the plague and you usually find the squat rack desolate and quiet except for the guy doing some curls in it.

They avoid it because it is hard. Don’t make this mistake.

As we covered in the 8 best exercises for muscle growth, squats, for example, promote an insane amount of muscle growth.

Squatting recruits over 85% of your body and when you squat heavy this translates into more thick, rock-hard muscle!

#3 Take Your Workouts Back to Basics – Compound Movements

Compound movements are vitally ESSENTIAL to building muscle.

These are moves that require more than 1 muscle group. Such as:

  • Deadlifts
  • Squats
  • Bench Press
  • Close Grip Bench Press
  • Barbell Curls
  • Floor to Overhead Press
  • Military Press
  • Pull-Ups
  • Chin-ups
  • Etc.

Not performing these has to be one of the biggest reasons you aren’t building muscle.

If you do not incorporate compound movements into your workout’s you are not going to get the stimulation you need to pack on muscle.

Old School workouts all had compound movements at their core because they knew these methods work!

The positive side effect of this is you get STRONG and BIG not just puffed up, just as all the old school lifters were.

#4 No Replacement for Food

One of the biggest problems I see nowadays is men using supplements as substitutes and not supplements.

Quite simply they are skipping food and trusting in pills and powders. It doesn’t work like that!

Supplements are just that – SUPPLEMENTS – they are not made to replace whole and good foods.

Eat the calories you need from FOOD, not supplements, use supplements when you need to fill gaps.

But keep the bulk of your consumption to good foods. You will see the difference in no time.

#5 Record Progress

Another major problem today is that men just don’t track what they are doing in the gym.

Bodybuilders of old used to have workout logs and they tracked their progress to make sure they were constantly improving.
